Vandenberg AFB: LGM-30G MM III launched from LF-9


An unarmed LGM-30G Minuteman III ICBM was launched during an operational test at 3:33 a.m. Thursday 26th from Launch Facility-9 on Vandenberg Air Force Base. The missile was shot out of an underground silo and It was the second Minuteman launch from Vandenberg this week.


¿What means Minuteman III?
  1. The LGM-30 Minuteman is a land-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), designed to deliver nuclear warheads.
  2. The version LGM-30G Minuteman III is the only land-based ICBM in service in the United States.
  3. Each missile carries three nuclear warheads, which have a yield in the range of 300 to 500 kilotons.
  4. The letter “L” in “LGM” indicates that the missile is silo-launched; the “G” indicates that it is designed to attack ground targets; the “M” indicates that it is a guided missile.
