7th Fleet Ballistic Missile Team Supports JMSDF in Exercise Keen Edge


U.S. 7th Fleet, U.S. Forces Japan and Japan Self Defense Force (JMSDF) operators will hone their Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) skills in exercise Keen Edge 2014 which runs through Jan. 31. "The successful defense of Japanese and U.S. interests from unanticipated ballistic missile threats requires detailed planning, precision ship stationing and lightning quick reactions," said Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Klobukowski, 7th Fleet integrated air and missile defense officer. "BMD is one of the many missions the U.S. and Japan train for together."

More U.S. nuclear missile officers implicated in cheating scandal


A U.S. Air Force investigation into exam cheating by America's nuclear missile officers has widened, with roughly double the original 34 officers now under review, a U.S. official said on Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity. The investigations also come just months after the head of the ICBM force, Air Force Major General Michael Carey, was fired for getting drunk and carousing with women last year while leading a government delegation to Moscow for talks on nuclear security. Israel has defenses against Yakhonts


Israel has defenses in place against the supersonic Russian- made Yakhont anti-ship missile, ex-navy chief Vice-Admiral (res.) Eliezer Marom told recently in a press conference. Describing the Yakhont as the most advanced missile of its kind in the world, Marom said the West does not know very much about the weapon, which flies at low altitude “right over the sea,” reaching speeds of between Mach 2 and Mach 3 (up to three times the speed of sound). China confirms first test of hypersonic missile carrier

Second test of Arrow-3 ABM


The missile defense agencies of Israel and the United States carried out yesterday a second test of the advanced Arrow 3 anti-ballistic missile system over the Mediterranean Sea, Israel’s Defense Ministry said in a statement.


The test fire, held at 8 a.m. at a launch facility in central Israel, was headed by the Administration for the Development of Weapons and the Technological Industry at the Defense Ministry, in collaboration with the U.S. Missile Defense AgencyAccording to a Defense Ministry statement, Arrow 3 is equipped with a revolutionary interceptor system that will enable Israel to effectively counter future security threats.


The Defense Ministry noted that the successful test fire "serves as an important milestone in the State of Israel's operational ability to defend itself against the foreseen threats in the regional theater." The Arrow 3 is an anti-ballistic missile, jointly funded and developed by Israel and the United States. The innovative Arrow 3 Interceptor is designed to intercept and destroy the newest, longer-range threats, especially those carrying weapons of mass destruction.

Third Tor-M2 battery in service of Belarusian air defense


The third battery of air defense missile systems Tor-M2 was put into service today by the 120th air defense missile brigade of the Western Operative and Tactical Command of the Air Defense and Air Force of BelarusThe keys to the new systems were presented by Major-General Igor Golub, Deputy Chief of the Air Force and Air Defense of Belarus. He underlined: “With the acquisition of the third battery we have formed a full-fledged air defense missile division, which wields the latest armaments”.


One Tor-M2 battery comprises four vehicles. Thus, the Belarusian army has received 12 Tor-M2 vehicles so far. The vehicles were made in Russia using Belarusian chassis (MZKT). The chassis has earned a good reputation: “We have already tested it in sands of Ashuluk. We have no complaints about the Belarusian chassis,” noted Igor Golub. He also explained that one combat system can fire at four airborne targets simultaneously. 

Belarus expects four S-300 missile systems


Belarus expects four S-300 air defense missile systems to be shipped from Russia, Maj. Gen. Igor Golub, a deputy commander of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense Forces, told journalists on Saturday 4th January.


Belarus has already received Tor-M2 systems from Russia as part of military-technological cooperation policy between the two countries and has concluded a contract for 4 Yakovlev Yak-130 aircraft. "Cooperation is continuing, and it is productive," Golub said.
